Project Status. The Alabama Department of Transportation Aeronautics Bureau has received the remaining funding necessary to complete the comprehensive planning effort (encompassing the Alabama Statewide Airport System Plan, the Economic Impact Analysis, and the Pavement Management Plan) that was started in June 2018. These studies are being conducted at no cost to the airports in Alabama.

Inventory and Data Collection Efforts. Data collection efforts are underway again to support the Statewide Airport System Plan, Airport Economic Impact Study, and Airport Pavement Management Program. Surveys/questionnaires have been distributed to and collected from airport managers and aviation-related businesses/tenants; surveys of commercial and general aviation visitors have been conducted (many by Research Assistants from Auburn University’s Aviation Program); and on-site visits have been completed at most airports. Follow-up conversations with airport managers and tenants to validate information and fill in data gaps will be conducted through November 2019. Please see the Schedule page for upcoming project activities.
